Who is an Ironman? Or perhaps a more apt question is, what is an Ironman?
The Ironman is the ultimate in endurance sports that covers 2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles of biking and a full marathon, or 26.2 miles of running. These endurance sports have to be done in sequential order, and each leg of the race is just as important as the next one.
Triathletes from all over the world enter qualifying races locally, in order to be part of the penultimate event, the Ironman World Championship to be held in October in Kona, Hawaii. Read more about the Ironman series here.
Many athletes train a lifetime to qualify in the Ironman championships. For those that try but fail to win any of the races, there is now the Ironman Lottery that gives a chance to these dedicated and hard-working athletes whose pursuit of excellence in these three sports never ends.
The Ironman Legacy and the Ironman Lottery are two chances triathletes have to fulfill their dreams of being in the Ironman World Championship.
