Auckland Half Ironman
The Auckland Half Ironman is a half ironman event that is held in New Zealand during the month of March. It is based in Auckland, the biggest city in New Zealand.
Auckland is situated between the Hauraki Gulf in the east, the Hunua Ranges in the southeast, the Manukau Harbor in the southwest, and the Waitakere Ranges and groups of smaller ranges in the west and in the northwest.
The metropolitan area of Auckland, the largest North Island of New Zealand, is the most densely populated, with about 1,377,200 recorded residents. The population which comprises 31 percent of New Zealand’s population, is comprised mainly of Polynesians.
The temperature in March when the Auckland Half Ironman is held is around 23 degrees Celsius with probability of rain.
The Auckland Half Ironman starts at the at the Maraetai for the 2 kilometer swim, followed by the bike ride covering 90 kilometers of the old Auckland Ironman bike course. The final event is running the 21.1 kilometers along the picturesque terrain around the shore of Hauraki Gulf which is made more spectacular by the Pahutukawa trees which at the same time provide shade for the riders on a sunny day.
A short course of 1 kilometer swim, 30 kilometers bike ride, and 7 kilometers run is also available for those who are interested. No prize money, however, is offered for winners in the short course of the Auckland Half Ironman.
The Auckland Half Ironman requires compulsory attendance to the race briefing at 8:15 a.m. at the Maraetai Beach on the day of the race. Compulsory bike and helmet checks are also required from all participants. The checking of the bike and helmet requirements will be done from March 5, 2012 up to March 22, 2012.
Registered participants to the Auckland Half Ironman without support are required to have their bikes rack up in the early morning of the race day. Registration for the 2012 Auckland Half Ironman is on March 23, 2012 from 9 in the morning till 7 in the evening, at the Sports Box located at 500 Parnell Road, Parnell, Auckland.
The safety as well as the health conditions of all the athletes will be ensured by Media Unlimited, the host of the 2012 event. Electronic devices owned by the athletes such as MP3 players and iPods are not permitted throughout the course.
The 2012 Auckland Half Ironman organizers will provide drinks such as water and Leppin Enduro Booster during the bike course and the marathon course. Participants opting to have their own drinks and foods may do so at the feed zone located at the Snake Hill by pre-arranging someone to hand them their food and drink since no other outside assistance will be allowed.

During the bike ride event, cyclists have to maintain a 7 meter distance and the passing speed rate should be 10% greater than the cyclist in front. Cyclists who fail to observe the passing speed will be pinged – there will be no advice while on the course, draft buster will write down the number of the athlete, and will be informed at the end of the race.
Winners of the 2012 Auckland Half Ironman, men and women categories, will collect $1,000 for the first place, $500 for the second place, and $250 for the third place. Merit prizes are also up for all triathletes that qualify.
